Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack (FLGR) will kick off the 2014 live thoroughbred racing season on Friday afternoon. The historic Western New York track’s 52nd season will begin with the nine-race Opening Day card. Post time for the first race is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. Racing gates open at 11:30 a.m.

Local trainer wins Breeders' Cup race

Ria Antonia was awarded the victory in the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Saturday to give trainer Jeremiah Englehart his first Breeders’ Cup win. The 32-1 longshot finished second in the rich event at Santa Anita under Javier Castellano, but was placed first after She’s a Tiger was disqualified by a majority stewards ruling.

$12 Million Expansion Opens

Nearly ten months of construction has come to a close on the $12 million expansion of Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack. Late yesterday evening the curtain was raised on the final sections of the 33,000 square foot expansion, marking completion of the most significant project since the addition of gaming in 2004 and officially beginning a new era of entertainment at the facility.

Acquilano saddles 1,500th winner

Trainer James Acquilano notched his 1,500th career win at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack (FLGR) on Tuesday. He reached the milestone when Erica’s Star scored a one and three-quarter length victory in the fourth race under jockey Michael Davila, Jr.
