Construction Begins On $12 Million Expansion

33,000 square foot addition projected for November opening
FARMINGTON, N.Y.– As Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack (FLCR) celebrates nine years of gaming operations, construction begins on its largest expansion project since the addition of Video Lottery Terminals (VLT’s) in 2004. With a $12 million expansion slated for completion by November, nearly 33,000 square feet will be added to the northeast corner of the plant that will accommodate space for additional machines, a new dining option, a feature bar/lounge and other amenities.

The project represents the most significant upgrade to the facility in its history, outpacing the $10.5 million renovation that provided for current gaming operations. “The addition of gaming operations and subsequent annual growth has allowed us to generate over $430 million for education in New York State since 2004, create several hundred jobs, stabilize the racing industry locally and ultimately create an economic impact of over $120 million annually,” said FLCR president and general manager Chris Riegle. “We look forward to the further enhancement of our operations to not only provide guests with additional amenities and a greater level of comfort, but also to strengthen our impact economically on a local, regional and state level.”

Through the expansion, FLCR will increase its VLT count to over 1,500 from its current total of 1,199. The expansion will also redesign the existing machine layout in order to widen aisles and allow for easier movement throughout the entire facility.

A new 102-seat restaurant with table service will offer an alternative sit down dining experience from the current buffet. Menu items are slated to include upscale sandwiches, premium burgers, soups and desserts and regional favorites.

The new feature bar will include seating for 144, a 16-foot hi-definition projection screen, 22 televisions, and a stage and dance floor. With a full menu of food, greatly expanded wine and beer selections, signature cocktails, live entertainment and theme nights, the area will be the focal point of the expansion, which also will include new Player Rewards and coat check areas.

Nearly 75 permanent jobs are projected to be created with the expansion, adding to the nearly 500 employed currently.

The current project is a small portion of an $80 million plan that was unveiled in 2012 to showcase how the property would expand if awarded a license to offer full casino gaming to include table games and traditional slot machine product. The bulk of that plan, which includes a new 200-room hotel, events center, new restaurants and further expansion is still on tap if a constitutional amendment authorizing full casino gaming passes the state legislature, is approved by voters statewide and Finger Lakes is awarded a license to offer the enhanced product. “While current business levels dictate moving forward with a portion of the expansion plan, this only scratches the surface of what the property could grow into if given the ability to move forward with full casino gaming,” added Riegle. “Our proven track record of growth, job creation and revenue generation for state and local governments is one we look forward to continuing to enhance in the future.”
