FARMINGTON, N.Y. – The 2019 live thoroughbred racing season at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) is set to get underway on Saturday, April 27. The historic Western New York track’s 119-day meet will begin with the 10-race Opening Day card.

The 2019 FLGR Opening Day card will feature all ten live races broadcasted in high definition (HD). The unprecedented switch to HD in 2019 at FLGR was made in part because of the Jockey Club’s HD Grant Fund.

Also on Saturday, last year’s top performers will each be presented with an award after the conclusion of the third race.

Jaime Rodriguez finished the 2018 meet with a total of 169 victories to reclaim the top ranking in the FLGR standings. Rodriguez earned his fourth FLGR jockey title in 2018. He has a busy day on Saturday with mounts in nine of the ten races.

Chris Englehart also took back his spot as the top trainer from Jeremiah Englehart. His son was the top conditioner for the previous two seasons. Chris finished the 2018 meet with 106 victories and currently has a record total of 16 FLGR trainer titles.

Jockey Daniel Vergara is expected to return to FLGR for the first time in five years. Vergara won 60 of his 272 mounts at FLGR in 2014 including two stakes victories. The veteran journeyman is currently competing at Turf Paradise in Arizona but will rejoin the local colony in early May. Vergara has a total of 1,368 triumphs during the span of his 21-year-career.

On Saturday, Lucky North members can check in between 11:30 am and 3:30 pm to spin one of the prize wheels. Participants have a chance to win up to $25 in betting vouchers. First race post time for Saturday is set at 1:10 pm.

FLGR will continue live thoroughbred action Monday and Saturday the following two weeks. Tuesday will then be added as a race day on May 14. Four day race weeks will begin the final week of May.
