FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Dr. Shane scored an upset victory in the 53rd renewal of the $206,963 New York Breeders’ Futurity on Saturday at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR). The talented colt took the rich stake for New York-bred 2-year-olds in a final six furlong time of 1:12.85.

Dr. Shane tracked the early pace under jockey Jaime Rodriguez. He then angled out to challenge his rivals and secure a two length triumph. The Nicholas Esler-trainee earned the surprise victory in the annual event at odds of 13-1.

The $220,328 earner owned by DutchessViews Farm registered his second win in his sixth lifetime start and paid $29.80, $6.60 and $2.90. Championofthenile was second as the odds-on favorite and returned $2.10 and $2.10. Mind Your Biscuits rallied to be third and paid $2.10.

John Davila, Jr. 3,500 wins

Jockey John Davila, Jr. recently notched his 3,500th career victory. The 51-year-old from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico won the eighth race on Thursday, October 15 aboard Hurry Up Alan to reach the milestone.
 John Davila, Jr. began riding at FLGR in 1983. He has earned 3,455 of his 3,500 wins at FLGR including a victory aboard Not Surprising in the Grade 3 Budweiser Breeders’ Cup on July 4, 1995.

The veteran journeyman recorded a total of four stakes victories during the 2015 season. The tally includes a triumph aboard Force in the $161,425 New York Derby on July 3. He is currently second in the local rider standings with 134.wins.
