$50,000 George Barker Stakes features return of 2018 "Horse of the Year" Saratoga Giro
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – A field of seven New York-breds 3-year-olds and upward are entered for the 35th renewal of the $50,000 George Barker Stakes. The Monday feature at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack (FLGR) will be contested at a distance of six furlongs.

2018 FLGR "Horse of the Year" Saratoga Giro is entered in the first FLGR stake of the season. The Paul Barrow-trainee won the annual event last year under Jeremias Flores.

The $325,941 earner finished second in his initial start of the year at FLGR in an allowance race designated as a preparation event for the George Barker. He was defeated by stablemate P J Advantage after being forced to go wide around the final turn.

P J Advantage won the five furlong test on May 13 by a margin of three-quarters of a length. He was guided to the narrow victory by jockey Oscar Gomez in a final time of :58.25.

Daniel Vergara will pick up the mount on the bay gelding who was the FLGR top 3-year-old last year. Gomez opted to ride Bavaro who is listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for the seventh race.

FLGR will offer eight live thoroughbred races on Monday including the George Barker Stakes. Post time for the first race is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
