A look back and ahead
Guillermo Rodriguez won both parts of the early daily double on Tuesday in memorable fashion. The apprentice jockey guided Meesh to the largest margin of victory of the season in the first race. He was in cruise control during the 32-length romp. Rodriguez was then aboard a surprise winner of the second race. He directed Hookedonsweetness to a a neck victory at odds of 43-1.
John Davila, Jr. and Gabriel Suarez were both injured in a spill that occurred during the running of Monday’s second race. The two jockeys were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York following the incident. Davila did not suffer any fractures but will miss some time with soreness in his collarbone and ribs. Suarez has a fractured vertebra and is doubtful to return before the conclusion of the meet.
News and Notes
Jockey/Trainer News: Jockey Michael Davila, Jr. has been off his mounts this week due to a shoulder injury that he attained during morning workouts on Saturday. Davila is expected to be out for at least one more week.
September 3 / Family Fun Day: Two stakes races for New York-bred 2-year-olds are scheduled to be run on Monday, September 3. The $100,000 (est.) Lady Finger Stakes and the $100,000 (est.) Aspirant Stakes are slated as part of Family Fun Day that features old fashioned prices. Hot Dogs, Sodas, and Racing Programs will be sold for $1.00 each at the Clubhouse entrance. There will be a new bounce house for children as well as entertainment provided by Flyin’ Brian and Miss Understood.
