A look back and ahead…
·        Two horses from the barn of Charlton Baker ran the fastest times of the meet on Saturday. Hardshell became the first four-time winner of the 2012 season when he won the seventh race by seven and one-quarter lengths. The 4-year-old gelding sizzled the five and one-half furlong distance in a time of 1:03.34 under jockey Jeremias Flores. He is undefeated at Finger Lakes and has trounced his competition by an average of nine lengths. Copper Forest upset his rivals in the feature race on the card at odds of 10-1 under the guidance of Jose Rohena. The $146,364 earner won the allowance event by four and three-quarter lengths in a final time of 1:37.92 for the mile distance. Local favorite Lisa’s Booby Trap faded to be second after setting a quick pace with early pressure from Too Tough Pete.
·        Longshot of the Week: Pure Love made amends for a fifth place finish on June 4 with a two and one-quarter length victory in Monday’s second race. The 3-year-old filly encountered a sloppy track in her previous start and was defeated by 13 and three-quarter lengths. The Ortis Henry-trainee rebounded with an improved effort on Monday and won at odds of 23-1 under apprentice jockey Guillermo Rodriguez.
·        Jockey News: Despite a late start to the 2012 meet, Michael Davila, Jr. has already cracked the top ten in the local jockey standings. Davila has a total of 16 victories this season.
