FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Hot Diggitty rallied in the stretch to score an narrow victory in the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack on Monday. The Jeremiah Englehart-trainee took the annual stake for New York-bred 3-year-olds in a final six furlong time of 1:11.80.

The $73,660 earner owned by Hobby Horse Stables LLC settled in the back of the pack for the early part of the race. Pacesetter Freudnme began to tire, and Hot Diggity was able to catch his rival right before the wire. He won the feature event by a margin of three-quarters of a length.

The victory in the 35th running of the annual stake completed a daily double for trainer Jeremiah Englehsrt. Englehart also won the seventh race with Tamzine.

Hot Diggitty registered his second win in his fifth career start. He was guided to his first stakes triumph by jockey Reylu Gutierrez and paid $13.80, $3.40 and $2.80. Freudnme held the second place position and returned $2.10 and $2.10. Longshot Empiremeister was third at odds of 49-1 and paid $19.20.

The Ontario County Stakes is run annually as a preparation race for the New York Derby. 3-year-old New York-breds will again take center stage at FLGR in the $150,000 New York Derby and the $75,000 New York Oaks. The co-features on the July 20 card will each be run at a distance of one mile and one-sixteenth.
