24-1 outsider takes Saturday's Handicap
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Mom’s Law rallied up the rail to win the 18th renewal of the $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Handicap at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack on Saturday. The 4-year-old filly scored the upset victory in the sixth race at odds of 24-1.
The $126,227 earner owned by My Purple Haze Stable and trainer Michael LeCesse saved ground under jockey Jeremias Flores and passed her tiring competitors. She was able to outkick Senora Dubai and Shesabronxbomber with the inside journey to secure the triumph.
The longshot completed the one mile and one-sixteenth route in a final time of 1:47.34. She registered her second career stakes victory at double digit odds. She also won the $75,000 New York Oaks on August 25, 2012 with a price of 15-1.
Mom’s Law took the annual stake for older New York-breds by a margin of one-half length and paid $50.00, $29.40 and $10.80. Senora Dubai finished second and returned $11.60 and $5.00. Shesabronxbomber settled for third after being forced to go wide and paid $4.30.
The $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Handicap is named after the female horse who won seven stakes and earned over $350,000 during her career.
The $200,000(est.) New York Breeders’ Futurity is the next rich event on the 2013 stakes schedule. The six furlong dash for New York-bred 2-year-olds will be run on Saturday, September 28.
