FARMINGTON, N.Y. – With the 2013 live racing season set to begin in just under one month, Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack recently added an integral piece to the racing program with the appointment of Bill Couch to the position of Racing Secretary.

As Racing Secretary, Couch will coordinate development of all race conditions and oversee operation of the entire stable area, which includes stalls for nearly 1,200 horses. “The reception I have received from both staff and horsemen thus far has been tremendous,” said Couch. “I’m looking forward to working with our horsemen to showcase Finger Lakes racing in the strongest way possible.”

An Ohio native, Couch assumes the position after spending the bulk of his career since 1988 at Thistledown, where he spent 12 of the last 14 years as Racing Secretary. That stop was only interrupted for a brief stay at Gulfstream Park in the same capacity in 2007-08. Previous to his days within the racing office at Thistledown, Couch’s beginnings in the industry were in jobs for various trainers as a groom, hot walker and more. He went on to train horses himself for a time in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He also served as a chart caller for the Daily Racing Form for several years.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to add someone of Bill’s experience level to our team at Finger Lakes. His previous background will serve him well in maximizing racing opportunities for our horsemen and creating a solid wagering product for our fans,” said president and general manager Chris Riegle.
The 2013 season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 20, with a first race post time of 1:10 p.m.
