Week-long event in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – In partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack (FLCR) looks to raise awareness of Breast Cancer in the month of October by launching a special fundraising event in conjunction with its thoroughbred racing program. During the week of October 22-27, each time a designated horse hits the board (win, place, show) in a race, a donation will be made to the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure -Central NY Chapter.
For every number1 horse that wins a race, Finger Lakes will donate $100 to the fund. If the number1 horse places or shows, a respective donation of $75 or $50 will be made. In addition, employees will be wearing pink ribbons for the week in support of the efforts, and to raise awareness. Guests are also encouraged to get involved by donating their player rewards points to the cause.
“The month of October is dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer in the world,” said Chris Riegle, Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack president and general manager. “Our hope is that ‘Racing for the Cure’ will raise awareness and provide additional funding towards finding a cure for this terrible disease.”
According to the Susan G. Komen website, nearly 1.3 million people are diagnosed annually with breast cancer. It is a disease that can affect men as well as woman, and currently has no known causes or cure. Many breakthroughs in medicine and a greater awareness have helped to increase the chances of survival. Early detection is the key to life. For more information, visit www.komencny.org.
