FARMINGTON, N.Y. –Saratoga Giro won the 34th renewal of the $50,000 George W. Barker Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) on Monday, June 4. The 5-year-old horse took the six furlong dash for New York-breds 3-years-old and upward in a final time of 1:11.20.

The Paul Barrow-trainee seized the lead midway through the annual sprint and held off his rivals to secure the victory by a margin of one and one-half lengths. He was guided to the win by jockey Jeremias Flores.

Saratoga Giro registered his tenth victory in his 26th lifetime start and improved his lifetime earnings to a sum of $295,202. He registered his first career stakes triumph and paid $3.80, $2.50 and $2.10. Manipulated rallied to finished second and returned $6.40 and $3.10. Mighty Zealous secured the third position and paid $2.20.

Wednesday card canceled

Officials at FLGR announced a change to the upcoming racing calendar. The live racing card for Wednesday, June 6 has been canceled.

The decision to eliminate Wednesday’s card helps maintain horse field size for the remaining days on the upcoming schedule. FLGR recently began full five day racing weeks and field size per race is becoming a more prevalent concern.

No other changes were made at this time to the 2018 live racing calendar. Racing will take place on all previously scheduled days with a 1:10 pm first post.
