FARMINGTON, N.Y. –Talk Therapy scored a one and one-half length victory in the 34th renewal of the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack on Saturday. The 7-year-old gelding owned by My Purple Haze Stables completed the one mile and one-sixteenth route for older New York-breds in a time of 1:45.94.
The $243,294 earner was kept close to the early pace by jockey John Davila, Jr. He then overtook his rivals to secure his first career stakes win.
Davila registered his 47th lifetime stakes triumph aboard the Chris Englehart-trainee. He is currently tied for the lead in the 2013 Finger Lakes rider standings with Jaime Rodriguez. Both journeymen have a total of 61 wins this season.
Talk Therapy continued his local success by registering his fourth victory in his sixth Finger Lakes start. He visited the winner’s circle for the seventh time in his career and paid $8.70, $3.90 and $3.00. Fox Rules was second as the post time favorite and paid $2.90 and $3.60. Dan’s Gold finished third and returned $4.40.   
The Genesee Valley Breeders’ Association (G.V.B.A.) is the oldest thoroughbred breeding organization in the United States. The G.V.B.A. awards program is administered by the New York Breeding and Development Fund Corporation, and it continues to provide monies for breeders and stallion awards as well as enhanced purses for registered New York-breds.
The $50,000 Leon Reed Memorial Handicap is the next rich event on the 2013 stakes schedule. The six furlong sprint for older New York-breds will be run on Saturday, August 17.
