24-1 Tequila Hero wins$126825 Aspirant; Matchmadeinheaven takes $124,888 Lady Finger Stakes
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – There were upset winners of the New York-bred 2-year-old stake races that were run on the Labor Day card at Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack. Tequila Hero won the $126,825 Aspirant Stakes at odds of 24-1 and Matchmeadeinheaven took the $124,888 Lady Finger Stakes at a price of 17-1.
Aspirant Stakes
Tequila Hero rallied to win the 38th renewal of the Aspirant Stakes under jockey Jeremias Flores. He won the six furlong dash in a final time of 1:13.48. 
The $76,790 earner owned and trained by Michael LeCesse added blinkers for the seventh race and responded with the three-quarter length victory.
LeCesse saddled a total of three winning horses on the Monday card. He also took the fifth race with Letshootpool and the ninth with The Wiley Vet.
 Tequila Hero earned his first win in his third lifetime start and paid $50.00, $22.80 and $11.00. Dark Roast was second and returned $6.20 and $2.70. Saint Arthur earned the show position and paid $3.00.
Lady Finger Stakes
Matchmadeinheaven scored a narrow victory in the 34th running of the Lady Finger Stakes. The Chris Englehart-trainee surged past Shea Darby by a neck despite being bumped by that rival in the stretch.
The $74,932 earner owned by Merrylegs Farm covered the six furlong dash for fillies in a final time of 1:13.61. She was guided to the upset win by jockey Joel Cruz. Cruz picked up the mount due to the absence of leading rider John Davila, Jr, Davila was sidelined after a spill that occurred on August 27.
Matchmadeinheaven scored the stakes victory in her first career start and paid $36.80, $10.20 and $6.20. Shea Darby ran second and returned $2.90 and $2.40. E. Schifty ran third for Michael LeCesse and paid $5.00.
The $126,825 Aspirant Stakes and the $124,888 Lady Finger Stakes are held annually as preparation races for the $200,000(est) New York Breeders’ Futurity. The Futurity is a six furlong sprint for New York-bred 2-year-olds. The rich event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 29 and will be the final stake of the 2012 meet.
